Alka started her political career as a student leader from the National Students Union of India, elected as the President of the University of Delhi. Alka got an offer to join the National Congress in the year 2006. Lamba joined the party and was assigned various prestigious local and national portfolios, which she held from 2007 to 2011.
In 2013, however, she resigned from the party realizing the public outcry against her, and joined the budding political party AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) 2013. On the strength of the credible face of Arvind Kejriwal, she was elected as MLA from Chandni Chowk. the constituency of Delhi in the 2015 Assembly elections in Delhi.

She was supported by top AAP officials like Manish Sisodia and Ashish Khaitan. She was made parliamentary secretary in Kejriwal’s government. However, the move was questioned and it created a lot of controversy.
Lamba is also a social worker. Lamba founded a foundation named ‘Go India Foundation’ in 2006 with the aim of encouraging and empowering youth and educating citizens about their rights and persuading them to contribute to the social, economic and political development of the nation. NGO founded.
